Flocking Frequently Asked Questions!

The flamingos have returned for 2013! To make a flocking order, download a form, complete it, and submit it with your your check to the church office.

Q: Can I see pictures of flamingos flocking?

A: Sure! Just click here to see flamingo sightings.

Q: What if I already know about flocking and just want an order form?

A: Click here to download and print a flocking order form.

Q: What is flocking?

A: Flocking is a way to temporarily send a flock of pink plastic flamingos to grace the yard of a friend or neighbor. By completing a Flocking Order Form and submitting payment by cash or check, we will schedule a flocking. The proceeds from Flocking help send our youth to summer camps, such as the Methodist District Christian Camps and Sierra Service Project.

Q: Who does the flocking?

A: The Youth, accompanied by one or more adults, stealthily plant the flamingos in the recipient's yard in the dark of night. In the morning, the cheery pink flamingos will greet the recipient.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: You can send a minimum size flock of 5 birds for $5, and a maximum flock of 20 birds for $20. Larger size flockings will be considered based on availability at a minimum cost of $1 per bird. Extra contributions for special orders will be graciously accepted. In fact, any contributions for this excellent cause will be accepted with thanks and joyousness!

Q: What do you do with the flocking money?

A: All of the proceeds from Flocking help send our youth to summer camps, such as the District Christian Camps and Sierra Service Project. We provide partial and full scholarships for any of our youth that want to go to camp. Summer camp experiences help to give our children insight into God in the world around us.

Q: Can I request a special date?

A: We will try to accommodate special date requests, but can not make guarantees because of limitations in trained flocking personnel and bird availability.

Q: How long will the flock stay?

A: The flock usually moves on within two days.

Q: Do people like being flocked?

A: Almost everyone enjoys their flamingo visitations. It can help you meet your neighbors, be an exciting topic of conversation, and bring cheer to someone who needs some extra special love and attention.

Q: What color are the flamingos?

A: Pink. Very, very pink. The baby flamingos that sometimes accompany the flock are a darker pink.

Q: How can I order a flocking?

A: Click here to download and print a flocking order form. Fill it out completely, and bring it to the church with your payment attached (checks to UMCOY or cash).

You can 1) put it in the pink flocking box in the Narthex, 2) give it to Deb or Linda in the office, or 3) mail it to the church address: UMCOY Flocking, 35177 Beech Ave., Yucaipa CA 92399.

Q: Are there limits on where I can flock?

A: We are restricted to flocking the local Yucaipa area.

Q: What is Flamingo Insurance?

A: If you are really squeamish about these sweet pink birdies coming to your yard, you can purchase Flamingo Insurance for $30 a month. If you have a current Flamingo Insurance Policy and someone flocks you, the flock will either bounce back to the sender or move on to the recipient of your choice. We'll contact you to get your preference. We do NOT send out reminders if your policy expires.

Q: Can I see pictures of the flocking on the church website?

A: We always try to take a picture before we unflock. Those pictures are posted on the website each year, like the one shown below:

Q: What if I have questions that aren't answered here?

A: You can email your question and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
